I always think about the fact that education has long-term goals, as well as short-term ones. I was reading an article about the famous Chinese basketball player from the early 2000s, Yao Ming, this morning. He said, ‘all my… failures made me who I am today.’ This is very important: the right response to failure is not to complain, or give up: it is to learn. Few people, if any, are always successful. But good teachers know how to work with their students for the long term as well as for now. If we keep going, we are successful. Resilience often beats talent!
