SPORTS
· Firstly, a huge well done to Gabriel (Year 5 – Rundell), one of our most passionate Table Tennis players. He spent the long weekend bringing glory to Wellington in the Under 15s (reaching the last 16) and the Under 11s where he reached the Quarter Finals. Gabriel played against players much older than himself and showed great courage and passion.
· Tennis star of the future, Punn (Year 4) won the T8 Doubles at Pattaya last weekend. Playing with his partner, Hero, Punn triumphed 4-1, 4-1 in the Final. Well done, Punn! Especially impressive as the last match didn’t finish till 22.30!
MUSIC
· Well done Kana (Year 5, Shelton) for her 4th Prize in the Free Programme - Infant B category in the Osaka International Music competition. Keep up the good work!
· Garm, a Year 8 Music Scholar, was recently selected to enter the finals of the Asian Supreme Drum Competition 2023, organised by RS Event Center at the Festive Arts Theatre, Singapore. The event featured drummers from Singapore, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand and Garm won 2nd Prize in the Junior category against some excellent opposition. Well done, Garm!
· Puifai, Year 8, is another Music Scholar who has also been busy! She recently won First Prize in the Class C Piano in the Young Artist Music Contest 2023 organized by College of Music, Mahidol University. Last weekend, she also participated in Churairat ABRSM Piano competition 2023. She performed pieces from the ABRSM syllabus and achieved First Prize winner in Category D (Grade 7-8 ABRSM). We are very proud of you, Puifai!
· We salute Alice (Year 5) who won a finalist medal in the same Churairat ABRSM Piano Competition 2023 (Category B: Age Under 12 Years Old). After the piano competition, Alice also performed violin in a small ensemble concert on the beach which was held in Pattaya organised by Viemus.
· Finally, congratulations to Bamboo who took part in the Thailand International Clarinet Competition 2023 on 8 October at Kasetsart University, Bangkok . She achieved a Silver Medal and Certificate in Level : Category E (9-12 Years old)What fabulous musicians – and this is just a small selection!
Academic
· We are very impressed by the success of all our Academic Scholars both in School and out of School. Huge congratulations to Laura Wang in Year 11 who has had great success in the Oxford Essay Competition 2023. Her essay on National Sovereignty of Oppressive States in International Discourse received a partial Scholarship and a High 2:1 result. This is very impressive – well done Laura!
· Recently Laura and Mighty (another Academic Scholar) Laura and Mighty competed at the Concordian MUN Conference over the weekend. Both students were a credit to the school and MUN. Laura was also awarded Best Delegates. We are about to compete in another MUN event at Wells School where we will field a team of 10!
