We are excited that our Wellington World is opening up once more! One of the wonderful things that we can offer our Wellington Bangkok students is access to the knowledge and experiences, the initiatives and the environments, the skills, and the resources of our founding school in the UK and our sister schools around the world. As we grow as a family, these programmes will develop in all areas beginning in 22-23 with the reintroduction of Summer School.
At a Parent Workshop last week, Iain Henderson, our Governor, and a Deputy Head at Wellington in the UK, explained this exciting opportunity. Summer School is available to all Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students currently studying at Wellington College Bangkok AND at other Wellington schools around the world. (In most future years it will be limited to Year 8 only – but our current Year 9 and 10 missed out due to COVID.) They will travel to Berkshire in the UK and take part in an amazing fortnight!
- Inspirational Lessons. All students will take part in a special timetable of Wellington lessons across the curriculum. They will be challenged to broaden their thinking and experiment with new ideas and ways of working
- Wellington teachers. All lessons are taught by Wellington teachers so every visiting student will have authentic and stimulating experiences
- Arts. All students will be exposed to the Arts as taught in Wellington – given the chance to perform, to create and to learn as well as the potential to visit shows, exhibitions, and galleries
- Sports. These form a key part of the programme and previous summer schools have included rafting, running, climbing and much more!
- Leadership and Team Building. A key component of the weeks is learning to problem solve, to work as a team and to become more independent. Wellington are working with Future Foundation to create a schedule for future global social leaders. Challenges are varied from year to year, but they are guaranteed to get the best out of every child!
- History and Heritage. Students are in the right place to learn about some of the key historical events linked to the Duke of Wellington and to the whole of British history. Students will see buildings, castles, museums, and other historical sites – while living within a piece of history!
- Living together, Boarding. This is often the first chance the children have to experience daily life from sunrise to bedtime with a group of friends. There are 18 boarding Houses at Wellington and students will live in these throughout their stay. Be a real boarder!
- Trips and Tourism. The experience includes getting out of School, too. Trips are planned to London and to Oxford. We will release more details as the year goes on – but prepare to have fun!
This amazing trip is planned for July 2 – 16 2023 at a total cost of approximately 2600-2800 GBP (excluding flights). We ask every parent to confirm interest by 30 November 2022 so we can plan ahead. The team in Senior School are at hand to answer any questions you have about this opportunity.
