Introduction to our IGCSE Programme at Wellington College Bangkok

Our first ever IGCSE students at Wellington College International School Bangkok have been 160 Years in the making! From August 2022, Wellington College Bangkok students will join millions of fellow students all around the world as they begin their IGCSE courses. It may be their first time, but they couldn’t be more fortunate, as they have access to some of the finest facilities in the world in our brand new state-of-the-art Senior School and some of the most successful, experienced teachers you will meet anywhere.

The curriculum covers a diverse range of subjects covering English, Maths, Arts, Sciences, Modern Foreign Languages and much more. We embrace the traditional and the new and every student can tailor their choices to future studies or careers. We are also offering Design Technology, Business Studies, Computer Science, PE, Drama, Music. Our students are prepared throughout their Senior years with particular focus in Year 9.

Our students could not have a better learning space. Our building is based around collaborative learning and caters to every single need. We are all very excited to teach this first IGCSE cohort and the many years that will follow them. We haven’t taught IGCSE in this building in Bangkok before, but we are Wellington. We are all experienced. We’ve done this many times and you are in the very safest hands.

Dr Panton stresses that we don’t teach students to pass exams but we teach them to think, to reason, to enquire, to debate. “It’s not enough to just have outstanding exam results. Young adults need depth and breadth. They need broad thinking and enrichment. We want them to find what they love and then work on it.”

Our teachers are all excited to teach the first Year 10 cohort at Wellington College International School Bangkok. They have all been teaching for a long time and are very experienced in IGCSEs both in the UK and internationally. Their passion shines through and they are excited to have small class sizes to nurture each and every student and to really give in depth individual attention at every point over the two year course.

Kate Salisbury is our Head of IGCSE Options and Pathways which supports every student as they make these important decisions – whether they are already in School or are joining at the start of Year 10. She ensures students ask the right questions as they make their choices and that they understand the decisions they are making. Parents are actively involved and encouraged to talk to teachers and with their children as they go through this process. We will be running a series of workshops throughout the year, so parents will remain connected about their children’s education and their next steps. Our teachers are friendly, open and very willing to talk through any concerns.

• Choose what you are good at and what you enjoy
• Try everything before you choose or dismiss it
• Learn good study techniques – be smart, be supported
• Exercise, sleep well, eat well, have fun – enjoy these precious years

We are particularly excited for our new Year 10 cohort as they embark on this historic journey and are incredibly proud of the dedication, they have shown in Year 9 and before as they prepare for the next academic year.
