Thailand has many wonderful golf courses and interest in golf is high at all ages. Here at Wellington College Bangkok, we believe we have the ultimate programme whatever your age, interest and experience.

Based in Krungthep Kreetha, Wellington College Bangkok lays claim to being the greenest of all Bangkok schools. Our 70-rai campus is adjacent to a well-used golf club giving the impression of endless greens!

We are fortunate to have an incredibly experienced Head of Golf – Michael Antona. A former Touring Professional and PGA Professional from the UK, he coordinates a wide and varied programme whether you are in Early Years and have never picked up a golf club – or going into Year 10 on a Golf Scholarship. Our students are supported, encouraged, inspired.

Here is just a taste of what we offer -

Snag golf

This is for the beginner level and young children. We start by using plastic clubs and different targets to develop true enjoyment for the game and encourage everyone to learn to slowly do the basics such as holding the club correctly or striking the ball. It’s a fun way to introduce anyone to golf.

Golf Passport/Development Programme

This comprises of three levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold and works well for Junior School age players. It gives enrolled students a clear pathway to the Golf Team. It sets out goals needed to achieve - such as hit the ball a certain distance or hole a certain number of putts to move onto the next level.

We begin to develop their technique, making sure all the fundamentals are good and this will set them on the right track to develop their golf skillsets for life. They will get some on course experience at different levels to introduce them to the golf environment and start to look at strengthening their body and moving with fluency.

Golf Team

The Golf team currently caters for a wide range of players. We appreciate that there are those that wish to play the game to a very high level and those that enjoy the social side of it and want to just enjoy playing. Squad training is on Tuesday evening at Unico golf course (we leave at 15.00 and return at 18.00 so a great session). Golf Lions on a Thursday evening is by invitation only ensuring that Coach Antona has time to spend with each individual where needed.

Golf Scholarships

We have a small and elite number of Golf Scholars. We recognise their unique talents and support them with specific programmes as they progress through School. This enables them to focus on developing their game whilst remaining committed to their academic studies.

Mr Antona explains “This fully structured programme means that we can cater for every golfer – whatever their stage. We want everyone to feel welcome here at Wellington! It’s not just about practising your strokes or putting - the game of golf is always evolving, and the physical part of the game is even more important in today’s world. We have regular gym sessions each week specifically tailored to the individual needs of our elite group of players.”

We have several golfers who are playing at a National level and we also have US college coach connections and plan to visit the US with some of our amazing Year 9s next year so we can enter the right events to be seen by college coaches and gain valuable experience.

Mr Antona adds “All the children here know that anytime they wish for my help all they have to do is ask and I will find time in and out of school to help with their games further. Teachers are always supportive of supporting tournament golf if the student is on top of their work. The Wellington ethos combines academics with passion for many other things including sports. The Wellington sports heritage and history is strong!

Parents – come and talk to me. I would love to hear about your budding golfers - whether you are already a Wellington family or you are considering joining us.”
