Thank you to Matt (Y10) for this U15 Basketball Team match report.
On Friday we hosted TSIS in a basketball match in front of enthusiastic home support. It was the first game of the season for the U15 boys; however, we began the game in a determined frame of mind, quickly forcing numerous turnovers and consistently countering the opposition’s offensive play. Max was busy early on making many interceptions and scoring freely.
We were also very strong on rebounds, with Poon the main protagonist here, both defensively and offensively. “The team that controls rebounds is the team that controls the game”, commented Poon after the match.
We were full of energy in the first quarter, amassing a sizeable lead which set the tone for the remainder of the game. However, even though we were comfortable winners on this occasion, we were quick to reflect after the game that we will need to increase our lay-up scoring percentage – especially when encountering more experienced sides later in the season.
Overall, however, it was a great first win of the season and we look forward to the next game with increased confidence. The final score was 47-17 to Wellington.
Thank you to Coach David and Ms. Matthews for their ongoing guidance and support, and to the teachers, students and staff who cheered us on in the stands.
