From the very first day we opened our doors to new students at Wellington College Bangkok (WCIB) in August 2018, to the present day, we have always had a close and sustaining partnership with our parent school in the UK – Wellington College (TWC). For over 160 years, Wellington College has been a global leader in education, with notable and international alumni across all areas of public life, commerce, sport, the arts, science, and engineering. With this indomitable support and heritage from our parent school, and other Wellington schools around the world, students at Wellington College in Bangkok are part of, and have access to a prestigious network of opportunity that remains with them throughout their lives.
One recent example of this close relationship is in our Senior School where two of our Year 10 students, Ton Aor and Eddie, have recently had the opportunity to fly to England and become part of Wellington College for two weeks. This was a reciprocal visit as we hosted a student from Wellington College, UK in Bangkok for two weeks in November.
During their time in the UK, Eddie and Ton Aor have experienced life in a large boarding school. Ton Aor stayed in The Hopetoun House for three nights as part of her exchange as well as using it each day for Prep, and Eddie was based at The Raglan House which is for day pupils. The students were hosted by two TWC families and Y10 TWC students, Arul and Octavia.
Both students experienced what life was like in Berkshire and took part in Year 10 lessons, plus the enjoying numerous activities such as climbing club, shooting club and netball clubs at the school. They also had the opportunity to watch productions and attend House events, something already a huge part of WCIB culture.
This is just one of the current initiatives and links we have with our sister school. We currently have Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students and staff involved in projects with TWC and this will continue to grow and flourish over the coming years.
Many of our year 8 and Year 9 students are attending the TWC Summer School for the Wellington College family of schools in July which will give students a unique two week programme of academic, extra-curricular and cultural experiences, alongside fellow Wellingtonians from around the world.
Additionally, our whole Year 9 cohort were involved in a peer mentoring programme with Year 12 students from TWC. This formed part of our Options and Careers program, and has been invaluable to support our students as they move towards commencing their IGCSE courses in August.
We also look forward to WCIB staff visiting TWC in May, and the following reciprocal visit by TWC staff to visit Wellington College Bangkok. As our school continues to grow, we look forward to harnessing this close relationship between the two schools to the betterment of students, staff and our respective communities.
