At Wellington College International School Bangkok, like all the world’s best schools – academic success and intellectual development are fundamental aspects to ensuring children have a thriving education which prepares them for future success at university and beyond.
However, this is only one element in a tapestry of experiences which helps to build future success and happiness for your child. Here at Wellington, we work assiduously to ensure that students in our care are inspired and passionate about all elements of their learning and life at School. Our dedicated teachers with many years of experience play a critical role, as does the support children gain outside the classroom from family, friends, and the wider community.
It is our belief in educating the whole child that underpins the school day being carefully structured to support learning in all areas – including independent work outside of class and extra-curricular activities. The Wellington School Day in some ways reflects that of a boarding school in the UK. For example, we have Prep lessons built into the timetable instead of enforcing homework. This is highly effective since children still have the responsibility of independent learning, supported by teaching professionals rather than putting the onus (and any potential stress!) onto parents.
Furthermore, time is made available for extra-curricular activities – also part of the school timetable so children can pursue their passions. The success of this model is demonstrable in Wellington Schools across the world, and equally here in Bangkok.
A recent example is seen with our thriving Music Department, where some of our youngest musicians are embarking on their own musical journey, and are already achieving outstanding success, supported by this approach to learning which Wellington adopts.
Junior School student Alice, recently achieved Gold Medals in the Junior soloist category of Piano and Violin at the Music Learning Festival #7, supported by Trinity College in London as well as passing violin and piano performance exams with the ABRSM.
Furthermore, Milin in Early Years won a Gold Medal at the same event in the "21st Century Junior Violin Performer Category".
Chris (another talented Early Years student) has also been working hard pursuing her musical passions, and reaping the rewards, achieving first place in the Voice Category (for Young Musicians, 5 -6 years old) of the Rocky Mountain Music Competition Winter Season 2022. Chris has also received an invitation to debut at the Winners Recital and Award Ceremony in Toronto, Canada later in the year.
These achievements are of course a reflection of the hard work and determination shown by our young musicians. Additionally, the Music Department at Wellington tirelessly supports all students in their pursuit of musical excellence. Alice’s mother (Khun Air) explains how this distinct learning culture at Wellington supports her daughter:
I would like to say Thank you for Wellington’s support, without your very best support in school, Alice wouldn’t be able to do her outside school activities. As Alice doesn’t have homework to worry about and she doesn’t need to take any tutor classes, she can spend her after school time for music and sport that she loves.
It is this space and opportunity afforded to Alice (and others like her) which is so important. Khun Air explains further:
Alice started her very first violin lesson in Wellington College while she was in Reception and continues her lessons today. I can truly say that her success has come from school support from the music department as Alice has been learning both piano and violin with the teachers in Wellington College Bangkok.
These types of experiences and achievements can be found throughout the School, in a range of Sports, Academic pursuits, and the Arts more broadly. Students are challenged, encouraged, and supported right across their learning journey – and a student who is dedicated to a core passion can be assured they will be supported by Wellington in all aspects of their time at the School.
