Stars of Wellington is back with a bang this week with a special bumper issue, covering the many achievements and accomplishments from across our student community.
This week we start with Academics and some fantastic news about Wish's recent achievement in the UK Junior Math Challenge. Wish achieved a Gold Medal and the ‘Best in Year’ award as announced last term. What's even more remarkable is that his score ranked in the top 0.4%, which means he placed 1,200th out of 300,000 competitors worldwide. As a result, he has qualified and been invited to participate in the final Olympiad round, a global highly acclaimed, challenging competition with total written solutions. In his role as a school representative, he has also secured a significant achievement for a prestigious Merit award from the Olympiad.
The UK Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a highly acclaimed and competitive event, drawing young mathematical talents worldwide, while Junior Mathematical Olympiad (JMO) is an advanced competition and a steppingstone to international mathematical competitions for highly talented individuals.
Wish’s parents were keen to extend their sincere appreciation to Mr. Walton and other dedicated teachers at Wellington for their role in supporting Wish's talent and passion for mathematics.
A proud moment indeed for Wish and one we are delighted to share with you here. Congratulations, Wish!
We are also proud to share with you the news of Winnie in Year 9 winning Silver and Bronze medals from the AMO and SASMO Mathematics competitions, which qualified her to compete in SIMOC global round. SIMOC (Singapore International Math Olympiad Competition) was held in Singapore in July 2023 welcoming over 1,600 contestants from 22 countries around the world. SIMOC is a unique concept of mathematics competition that not only tests a student’s ability to solve mathematical problems, but also tests their ability to work as a team, solving interactive mathematical games and solve puzzles. Winnie joined three competitions, one Math Olympiad competition and two team-based competitions. We are delighted to share that Winnie won Bronze from Math Olympiad and one Bronze team-based competition called Mind Sport Challenge. Well done, Winnie!
More Mathematics success from Latte in Year 7 who took part in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC 2023) in Thailand (Upper Primary (UP) for Grade 5-6), winning gold with distinction! Brilliant work, Latte, congratulations!
At the Global English Language Olympiad of Southeast Asia (GELOSEA), Alice was awarded gold in her category. Additionally, Alice continues to shine in the musical arena, being crowned champion in the Violin and first runner-up for piano at the International Youth Arts & Cultural Centre 2023 (IYACC). Well done Alice on your achievements!
We have even more academic achievements to report, with Allie in Year 3 who has won two awards - the Gold Award for Asiarope Olympiad - international Science Competition, National Round and the Gold Award for GELOSEA - the global English language Olympiad of Southeast Asia. Superb, Allie, well done!
In Chess, Mike, Mattie, Pete, Summer from Year 7 and Mark from Year 9 took part in the recent TCIS Chess Tournament. Mark achieved 3rd Runners-up for U14 and Pete finished 4th Runners-up for U12. The photos as attached. The team look forward to the next tournament at Bangkok Pattana on November 19th. Well done and good luck for the next tournament!
In Music, Hazon (Year 7) has won gold at the Bangkok Youth Singing Competition (BYSC). A fantastic achievement, Hazon, well done!
Milin took part in the final round of the Thailand Strings Competition last Monday. Milin achieved the highest points and won First Prize in her age category, receiving a trophy and cash prize.

On 12th September, Milin also had a chance to perform her violin in the Celebrating B. Grimm 145th Anniversary Concert held by the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra as the opening show at the Cultural Centre.

Home attended the Shanghai International Piano Competition Bangkok and won third prize in piano. He has now qualified for the finals in Shanghai China in January 2024. Well done, Home! And good luck in the finals!
Jidapa in Year 6 won 1st Prize (Pianist class : Age 11-12) in 2023 Shanghai International Music Competition by Asia Pacific International Arts Festival. Wonderful news, Jidapa, congratulations!
Garm participated in the Class C Drum Competition, YAMC2023 (Young Artist Music Contest 2023), organised by Mahidol University. A huge well done to Garm who came away with 1st prize from the competition.
Yuri won Second Prize Winner Award in the Woodwind Instrument Category C in the Young Artist Music Contest 2023 (YAMC). Well done Yuri, on another great result!
And together, Yuri and Garm have been awarded the prestigious Prime Minister's Cup of Honour. This took place at the award ceremony for the National Anthem and Royal Anthem Composition Contest, 2nd Edition. It was an honour to have Mr. Suthin Khlangsaeng, Minister of Defense, extending his heartfelt congratulations to the deserving award recipients.
Moving on to sport, and in Golf, Nava took part in the SINGHA-SAT Future Junior Golf Tournament 2023 at the Watermill Golf and Country Club, finishing as the overall winner for the D-Girl Division (9-11). Congratulations, Nava!
Also in Golf, Music continues to shine on the course with victory at the TGA -SINGHA Junior Ranking Tournament 2023-2024 at the Royal Hua-Hin Golf Golf(Central Region) over Sep 30 & Oct 1, 2023. Congratulations, Music!
And finally, in Tennis, Emily continues to star on the court with second place in last weekend's tennis tournament in Phuket in the age group above her (Tecnifibre - Schools Tennis 10s Tournament 2023 at Oceanic Tennis Club) arranged by the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand.
It was a very tight final where she won the first set 4-0, then lost the tiebreak in the second. She lost the third set in a super tie break 10-8. On the way to the final, she also beat the #2 ranked player in Thailand 4-0 (in the age group below her).
Emily also won the doubles final with her friend 4-0, 4-0.
